Different types of DSL:
- ADSL (Asymmetric DSL): The most common and affordable DSL type. ADSL reserves more of your
line's available "bandwidth" for download performance than for upload performance. This means that
you can download web pages, images, and files at a faster speed than you can upload files from your
computer to another location. In addition, you can be on the Internet and talk on the phone at the
same time, on the same line.
- SDSL (Symmetric DSL): SDSL is best suited for small office/home office customers, telecommuters,
and power users. This DSL flavor allocates equal amounts of "bandwidth" for download and upload
performance. In other words, you can upload data to the office just as fast as you can download
from it. SDSL uses all of the available frequency range on a pair of wires, so it requires a
dedicated line (which is included in the SDSL price). Unlike ADSL, SDSL cannot be shared on the
same line with traditional, voice telephone service.
Great! Take me back so I can learn more. |
